For outdoor applications such as cable entries, antenna masts or PV connection cables,
reliable sealing is essential. Heat shrink tubing used in these environments must provide
long-term protection against moisture, UV radiation and harsh weather conditions.
To ensure a durable and watertight seal, the following factors are crucial.
For outdoor use, we recommend medium-wall heat shrink tubing made from cross-linked
polyolefin with an internal adhesive layer. When heated, the melt adhesive flows and
forms a reliable, watertight bond between the tubing and the cable.
Proper dimensioning is key to achieving a reliable seal. A proven guideline is the
80:20 rule: the heat shrink tubing should shrink by at least
20% and no more than 80% of its total shrink capability.
This ensures optimal sealing without excessive material stress.
Correct processing is essential for sealing performance. Use a hot air gun and apply heat
evenly from the center towards the ends. This allows the adhesive to flow
properly and prevents air pockets from forming.
Quality indicator: A small amount of adhesive emerging from both ends of the
tubing confirms that a complete and reliable seal has been achieved.
For durable, waterproof sealing in outdoor environments, we recommend
medium-wall polyolefin heat shrink tubing with adhesive lining
and a shrink ratio of 3:1 or higher.
This combination provides excellent protection against moisture, UV exposure and mechanical stress.
